Speaker update – Fiona

  • Speaker on healthy lunches, nutrition is moving, so no workshop
  • Workshop on head lice (from London) for next school year – using PRO grant; to tell us how to prevent and treat lice; low cost (travel expenses only); small kit costs $24.95 (includes book and comb), large kit includes a light for $50Financial report – Laurie

    • $7394.10 dedicated to Junior Playground
    • $3500.00 promised funds for teachers’ wish list

  • Fundraiser for Snack Pack Program – Gala – Thurs. January 29 6-8 pm at the Tannery, 151 Charles St. W, Kitchener
    • Motivational speaker: Thanh Campbell, author of “Orphan 32”
    • 300 tickets available, $50 each – order online or from teachers (cheque or cash)
    • Hors d’oeuvres, auctions and fun

    • Grade 5s wrote persuasive letters to businesses asking for donations – very successful
  • Snack Pack luncheon with reps from up to 9 churches within our school boundary; January 21
  • Cold weather: if Board website says it’s -20º or colder with windchill, children stay inside; if -35º, schools are closed
  • PA day Jan. 30
  • Kindergarten registration Feb. 4
  • Report cards going home Feb. 20
  • Mrs. Weber (K-5) leaving Feb. 13; Mrs. Jones is back Feb. 17
  • Chocolate bar campaign in October raised about $10,000 – major fundraiser for day-to-day issues in school
  • Grade 6 ski trip Feb. 5 all day
  • Grades 1-5 tubing trip Feb. 6; parents volunteering only no cost, if they also tube they need to pay $12; council paying for busing
  • Chapters offers 2 programs for fundraising for schools – Sportsworld store; certain % of purchases over eg. 2 month timeframe goes to school (in form of gift cards)
  • Winter concert had very good turnout
  • Rangers game Jan. 9 our choir sang O CanadaGreening update – Laurie
  • Some grant dates coming up
  • Need to figure out what our next step is
  • Valentine’s party – Fiona
  • Friday Feb. 13, 6:30-8pm – girl guides running it
  • Punch, crafts
  • Dance – free DJ – can make requests
  • Will also hold another clothing giveaway
